Geotechnical Engineer
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer position will work on a variety of projects involving traditional geotechnical engineering designs such as shallow and deep foundations; slope stability; seepage; bearing capacity; settlement; pavements; deep foundations; retaining walls; and dams. The position also includes performing geotechnical computer modeling; specifying, implementing and interpreting soil and rock investigations including drilling, cone penetrometer and in-situ testing; instrumentation installation and monitoring; and overseeing on-site and laboratory testing. The position involves field work such as construction observation, surveying, and facility inspections. Projects focus on geotechnical and civil engineering design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications, writing reports, and cost estimating. The position will include project management for scope, schedule, and budget compliance, and will require interfacing and collaborating on these projects with engineers within our company. Administrative responsibilities such as business development; project management; mentoring and coaching; project planning and scheduling; and workload estimating are included in this role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a Graduate degree in geotechnical engineering or similar
  • 10 – 15 years of relevant work experience involving geotechnical engineering including advanced slope stability and geotechnical foundation analysis and design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • Strong technical understanding of a wide range of civil engineering such as structural, water resources with an emphasis on geotechnical analysis and design
  • Demonstrated flexibility, willingness to modify schedule as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
  • Proven project management and organizational skills
  • Computer skills including modeling software (such as FLAC, Plaxis, MODFLOW and/or GeoStudio), word processing and spreadsheets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to teach and train others
  • Experience or familiarity with construction plans and specifications and implementation of a quality control plan on large and complex projects
  • Knowledge of the local geotechnical markets and subsurface conditions
  • Ability to support and develop business development opportunities 
  • Strong relationships with clients and the ability to foster ongoing relationships and develop new ones
  • Desire to become involved in the greater geotechnical community by performing research, giving presentations, and preparing publications
  • Proven experience of developing, collaborating and maintaining relationships across various offices functions
